In-Person classes, taught by kiln-formed glass artist Larry Pile, range from brief “make-and-take” and Open Studio sessions, during which an inexperienced student can come in and successfully make a glass project, to multiple-day master classes in which an experienced student can focus on learning a very specific and often complex skill.
Classes happen in Larry’s studio and in area arts/crafts entities. Larry also does private classes (minimum 8 students) and will come to your location for a class or even an organizational team-building!

Topsy-Turvy Focal Bead – Fine Silver Metal Clay
The Topsy-Turvy Focal Bead is a super fun and creative way to add new techniques to your metal clay skills. In this class, you will be able to create a fabulous focal bead to string in a necklace or hang from a chain!
The focal bead is built on a solid core that will burn-out in the kiln when the piece is fired, leaving a beautiful hollow-form bead that makes a statement! In addition, you will learn to use Syringe Type Metal Clay to decorate your bead and add your personal stamp.
A small variety of pre-made cores will be available for you to choose to form your bead around. All the tools needed for the class will be provided for use and the cost includes enough fine silver metal clay and syringe for your Topsy-Turvy focal bead!
Note: This project requires an extended drying and firing schedule so they will be fired and polished for later pick-up. We will discuss the firing schedule and considerations during the class.

What is Metal Clay?
Imagine taking a piece of clay and forming it into a shape you like, and then placing this clay into a small kiln and, voila! out comes a pure, fine silver object, ready to be polished and worn! Metal Clay has tiny particles of fine silver suspended in an organic binder. It looks and feels just like clay, but not as messy! Once fired, a magical transformation takes place as the binder burns away, and you are left with a beautiful piece of jewelry that you’ve created!
